Ontario will be back to balance in 3rd or 4th year of Ford mandate, promises MPP Lisa MacLeod

Global News June 10, 2018

One of the most experienced MPPs in Doug Ford‘s new Progressive Conservative caucus says it was impossible to roll out a fully costed platform during the provincial election campaign because her boss simply didn’t know the true state of Ontario’s books.

“We decided that we would make some modest commitments, roll them out throughout the campaign and wait until we saw what the actual books were,” MacLeod said.

This seems to be the first public acknowledgement by the OPCs that their "Plan for the People" is not a fully costed platform. While there are costs attached to most spending promises, the critical elements lacking from their plan were numbers tied to promises of recovered revenue and the traditional review by The Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy (IFSD) (which a previous version of their platform did have).
